This picture is of the student protests happening here in Colombia. The government is thinking to cut what little cash they had to the education systems and make them private. I’ve had a phew protests with hundreds if not thousands of youth marching around blocking traffic. So this pictures is rather funky.
I’m glad I’m an intern who never had a formal education…..

"if he got a “C” in a course, nobody cared, but if he went to school three minutes late he was sent to the principal’s office -and that generalized. He realized that what it meant is, what’s valued here is the ability to work on an assembly line… The important thing is to be able to obey orders, and to do what you’re told, and to be where you’re supposed to be."

Kindergarten Teachers Say Students Are Behind on Day One

infoneer-pulse:

According to a new survey presented at the annual conference for the National Association for the Education of Young Children yesterday, two-thirds of kindergarten teachers say the majority of their students start school without knowing basic preschool concepts like the alphabet. At a time when closing the achievement gap is a national imperative for our nation, veteran kindergarten teachers say students are less prepared for school than ever before.

Just 6 percent of kindergarten teachers say that students are very well prepared academically when they enter the classroom. Students come in lacking the ability to hold a pencil or write their name. Fewer than 9 percent of teachers rated incoming student’s oral language skills as very good. Given that the size of a student’s vocabulary is an indication of how well they’ll do academically for the rest of their lives, that doesn’t bode well for ensuring students are on the track toward college or careers.

That’s right… a second veteran has been injured, pretty severely at Occupy Oakland. Kayvan Sabehgi, who has served with the Army in Iraq and Afghanistan, was apparently beaten by three or four policeman after being told to move (and having nowhere to move to). He was arrested and jailed, despite being in poor medical condition and a considerable amount of pain. He is currently in intensive care with a lacerated spleen, let out on bail 18 hours after his arrest.

"I’m sorry, Occupy Wall Street doesn’t need a manifesto. The message is as clear as a bell: Wall Street broke the economy—badly—we’re all still suffering for it. Wall Street never got held accountable for it, and now they’re using their power and their money to stop us from fixing the mess. They broke the economy and then they ate the political system."

Banksy Artwork for Occupy London Movement

‘The Occupy London Movement has received a nice gift in the form of a sculpture from none other than artist Banksy it seems. The artist presents his take on the Monopoly game with Uncle Pennybags looking for a handout. The artwork is standing at St.Paul’s Cathedral as a show of support for the protest against corporate greed and corruption.’

Scott Olsen ‘cannot talk’ after injury at Occupy Oakland protest

Scott Olsen, the Iraq war veteran who was seriously injured by a police projectile during a protest in Oakland, has regained consciousness but “cannot talk”.

Olsen, 24, is communicating with friends and family at his bedside by writing notes, but his injury is believed to have damaged the speech centre of his brain, according to Keith Shannon, who served with Olsen in Iraq.

Olsen is believed to have been injured by a police projectile. He was hit in the forehead in downtown Oakland on Tuesday evening, after marching with fellow demonstrators to protest the closure of an Occupy Oakland camp in the city.

“He cannot talk right now, and that is because the fracture is right on the speech center of his brain,” said Shannon. “However, they are expecting he will get that back.”

It’s hard not to feel for this guy. He’s young, with his whole life ahead of him, recently made more worldly by his experiences in Iraq. He did nothing to deserve this happening to him. It’s always scary how easy it is to receive a brain injury that changes everything. I hope he recovers in full.

Yes! This is what I love to see, cops being people and protesting. It’s harder to find than you might think. Please feel free to point me in the direction of other examples of police protesting.

It’s nice to see the brokers too, of course. :)

without delay

Considering the beautiful and terrible aspects of humanity, all that we've done and affected, history and current events, matters of freedom and the social controls attempting to impede it (including religion).

I am just a person, unaffiliated with anyone or anything.
